Technical information and permissions
Homework Ledger and its service providers process limited technical information to deliver, secure, diagnose, and improve the service.
- Request and device information such as IP address, timestamps, browser or app version, operating system, language, session identifiers, pages or features used, and basic performance data.
- Crash, error, and diagnostic information. Error monitoring is configured to avoid default personal identifiers and to redact email addresses and street addresses from reported text when detected.
- Authentication cookies, tokens, and browser or device storage used to keep you signed in, remember preferences, preserve drafts, and operate security controls.
- Coarse location inferred from network information may be used to recommend nearby public reports. Device coordinates are used only after location permission has been granted or when you choose a current-location feature, such as nearby reports or contractor search.
- Camera, photo library, microphone, and notification access are requested through your device only when the related feature needs them. Push tokens are stored after you enable remote notifications.
Public and third-party information
Homework Ledger may collect or receive information that was not submitted by an account holder, including residential permit and inspection records, property addresses, contractor or business names, licenses, public contact information, and status updates published by government agencies or other public sources.
This includes county property records such as year built, home type, and square footage, and government geographic and flood-hazard data such as the U.S. Census Bureau's address locations and FEMA's flood maps.
We may also receive address, map, place, business-directory, street-view, app-store, and aggregate performance information from service providers. Public-source information can be corrected, delayed, incomplete, or removed by its source.
How we use information
- Create and maintain accounts, home reports, contractor profiles, messages, reminders, notifications, and support workflows.
- Import and organize public permit history, classify projects, calculate report totals and scores, and suggest contractor matches.
- Build city and neighborhood pages and their Insights: how many home reports an area has, the most common kinds of work, typical costs, who did the work, and the businesses most often named. These combine public permit records with entries on public home reports, are shown only as totals across homes, and never show a person's name.
- Provide address search, maps, nearby-report recommendations, contractor search, and optional AI-assisted entry drafts.
- Send account, security, permit, reminder, support, and other service communications according to your settings.
- Prevent abuse, enforce access controls and rate limits, scan uploads, investigate reports, debug failures, and protect users and the service.
- Measure service reliability and feature use, improve forms and workflows, and comply with legal obligations.
What is public and what is restricted
Homework Ledger is built around address-based public home reports. A public report may show the property address, eligible homeowner or contractor entries, municipal records, project dates and values, contractor attribution, report totals, scores, and selected entry media or documents. A report can continue after the property changes owners.
- Permit and inspection information may already be public through the issuing authority and can appear even when no homeowner created the record.
- Contractor profiles, reviews, contractor-submitted work, and public business information may be visible to other users.
- Sign-in credentials, private account contact information, ownership-verification documents, direct messages, support conversations, and files designated as private are not placed on the public timeline.
- Entry photos or documents can be visible with the entry when the feature indicates public or shared visibility. Do not place sensitive personal information in public fields or public attachments.
- A homeowner's choices about the home's systems, such as marking a system as the original or as not applying to the home, appear on the public report with the system ages, like the owner's entries.
- When a home is transferred to a new owner, or another homeowner claims a home that was released, the new owner receives the home's history. The new owner does not receive the previous owner's name, email address, or edit history.
No sale or behavioral advertising
Homework Ledger does not sell or rent personal information and does not share personal information for third-party cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not use home report content, private account data, or uploaded documents to build advertising profiles for unrelated companies.
Your choices and controls
- Edit or delete eligible entries, uploads, profile details, and reviews you contributed, subject to shared-history and public-record rules.
- Use correction and reporting tools when a public report, contractor match, or permit classification appears inaccurate.
- Manage email and push-notification preferences in Account settings and device settings. Essential account, security, and legal notices may still be sent.
- Allow or deny camera, photo, microphone, location, and notification permissions through your browser or device settings. Denying a permission disables only features that require it.
- Choose whether to use AI Auto Entry; manual entry remains available.
- Permanently delete your account from Account settings in the app or through the website's account-deletion page.
Retention and account deletion
We retain information while your account is active and for as long as reasonably needed to provide the service, preserve security and audit records, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, or meet legal obligations.
Deleted property entries and their attachments remain in Trash for up to 90 days so the current owner can restore them. After that period, the deleted entry and unshared storage objects are scheduled for permanent deletion.
Permanent account deletion removes your profile, personal account data, and files you uploaded. Historical property entries, public permit records, contractor attribution, and verification history may remain with the shared property or business history after your identity is removed or replaced with a deleted-account label. Limited records may remain temporarily in backups or when required for security, fraud prevention, legal compliance, or dispute resolution.
If your account is suspended or your messaging is restricted when you delete it, we keep a minimal abuse-prevention record until that restriction would have ended: a one-way, keyed hash of your normalized email address, the type of restriction, and its end date. It contains no name, account content, or reason. If the same email address is used to sign up or sign in before that date, the remaining restriction applies to that account. The record is deleted after the restriction period ends.
Security
We use reasonable technical, administrative, and organizational safeguards, including encrypted network connections, access controls, private storage for restricted files, upload checks, monitoring, and data minimization. No service can guarantee absolute security. Protect your credentials and notify us promptly if you believe your account or information has been compromised.
Children's Privacy
Homework Ledger is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can review and remove it. A parent or guardian should supervise a minor's use of Homework Ledger when required by applicable law.
Privacy requests, policy updates, and contact
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, or a copy of certain personal information, or to object to or limit certain processing. Submit a request through Contact Us. We may need to verify your identity and may retain information when an exception applies.
We may update this policy when the product, providers, or legal requirements change. We will revise the date above and provide additional notice when a change materially affects how we use personal information.
