Terms of Service

Agreement for use of Homework Ledger

These Terms of Service govern your use of the Homework Ledger website, iOS app, Android app, and related services. By accessing or using Homework Ledger, you agree to these terms.

Last updated: October 15, 2026

At a glance

This summary helps you understand the main points. The numbered terms below are the complete agreement.

  • Home reports are address-based and may combine homeowner, contractor, and public municipal records.
  • Permit records, contractor matches, AI drafts, scores, costs, durations, and reminders may be incomplete or incorrect. Verify important information before relying on it.
  • You keep ownership of content you submit and give us permission to use it to operate, protect, and display the service as described below.
  • Use Homework Ledger lawfully, respect other people and their information, and do not interfere with the service.
1

Scope and eligibility

These terms apply wherever you use Homework Ledger, including its website, mobile apps, public home reports, contractor features, communications, and related services.

You must be legally able to enter into this agreement. If you use Homework Ledger on behalf of a business or another person, you represent that you have authority to bind them to these terms.

2

Accounts and security

  • Provide accurate account information and keep it current.
  • Protect your sign-in credentials and promptly report suspected unauthorized access.
  • You are responsible for activity under your account unless you have reported that the account was compromised.
  • Do not impersonate another person, contractor, homeowner, or organization.
3

Public home reports

Homework Ledger is built around address-based home reports. These reports and the entries selected for public display may be viewed by other people, including future owners, buyers, contractors, and lenders.

A home report can continue after a property changes owners. Historical property entries, contractor attribution, permit records, and verification history may remain associated with the property even when a contributor removes their personal account association, as further described in the Privacy Policy.

  • Do not place passwords, financial account numbers, government identification numbers, access codes, or other sensitive personal information in public fields.
  • Ownership documents and other restricted files are handled separately from the public timeline, but you should upload only information needed for the service.
  • Use correction, reporting, and support tools when a public home report contains information you believe is inaccurate or inappropriate.
4

Your content and permissions

You retain ownership of the entries, text, photos, videos, documents, reviews, messages, and other content you submit. You represent that you have the right to submit that content and that doing so does not violate another person's rights.

You grant Thinkdoor LLC a nonexclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, format, process, analyze, and display your content as reasonably necessary to operate, secure, improve, and provide Homework Ledger. This includes displaying content in the public or shared home report you selected and creating reports or summaries from that content.

This license ends when the content is deleted, except when retention is reasonably required for security, fraud prevention, legal compliance, backups, dispute records, or an address-based property or contractor history that remains without your personal account association under the Privacy Policy.

5

Permit and municipal data

Homework Ledger may collect, organize, classify, and display permit or inspection information published by cities, counties, states, and other public sources. Homework Ledger is not a government agency and is not endorsed by the agencies whose records appear in the service.

  • Public-source records may be delayed, incomplete, duplicated, revised, withdrawn, or associated with an address differently by the issuing authority.
  • Project categories, contractor links, estimated durations, and other structured details may be generated from source records and can be corrected when better information becomes available.
  • Permit issued, approved, closed, or similar labels do not necessarily prove that work was completed, inspected, code-compliant, safe, or performed well.
  • The issuing authority's current record controls when it conflicts with Homework Ledger. Verify important permit facts with that authority.
6

AI-assisted features

Optional AI-assisted features may help select an entry form, organize text, or suggest project details. AI output is a draft, may be inaccurate, and may omit important facts.

  • Review and correct AI-generated content before saving or relying on it.
  • Do not rely on AI output for building-code compliance, electrical or structural safety, pricing, legal requirements, inspections, or professional advice.
  • Information submitted to an AI feature may be processed by service providers as described in the Privacy Policy.
7

Contractors, matching, and reviews

Homework Ledger may match permit names or submitted work to contractor profiles using names, locations, licenses, public records, and other available evidence. A match can be incomplete or incorrect and is not an endorsement, certification, or guarantee of a contractor.

  • Confirm identity, licensing, insurance, references, scope, pricing, and qualifications before hiring or paying anyone.
  • Reviews and contractor-submitted work reflect their contributors' statements and may not have been independently verified.
  • Contractors must accurately describe their identity, role, and work and must not claim work they did not perform.
  • Claiming an existing business listing is a representation that you are authorized to manage that business.
  • Homework Ledger may release, reassign, or remove a listing claim that is disputed, inaccurate, or cannot be verified.
  • Claiming a listing does not give access to messages or requests sent to that business before the claim.
8

Scores, estimates, reminders, and reports

Scores, project-cost totals, typical costs, estimated durations, system ages, flood zones, reminders, insights, and generated reports are informational tools based on the records available to Homework Ledger. They are not appraisals, inspections, warranties, safety certifications, or promises of future performance.

  • Missing records can affect scores, totals, and recommendations.
  • Estimated costs and durations may differ substantially from actual projects.
  • City and neighborhood Insights are informational totals from public permit records and public home reports. Typical costs come from permit values and owners' entries, which are often lower than the final bill, and counts of the businesses homeowners hire are not a rating, endorsement, or recommendation.
  • Reminders supplement, but do not replace, manufacturer instructions, professional maintenance, inspections, or your own records.
  • Home systems ages come from permit and owner records and typical lifespans. A system shown as original or not on record may have been replaced without a record, and an age or years-left figure is not an inspection of the equipment.
  • Flood zone information comes from FEMA's published flood maps for the location of the address. It is not an official flood zone determination, maps can be out of date, and a lender's or FEMA's determination controls. Ask your lender, insurer, or local floodplain administrator before relying on it.
9

Acceptable use

  • Do not use Homework Ledger unlawfully, fraudulently, deceptively, or to harass, threaten, discriminate against, or harm another person.
  • Do not upload malware, interfere with the service, evade security or rate limits, or attempt unauthorized access to accounts, systems, or private data.
  • Do not use bots, scrapers, or other automated means to access or extract Homework Ledger content unless we have expressly authorized that access in writing.
  • Do not reverse engineer, copy, resell, or exploit the service except where applicable law expressly permits it.
  • Do not submit knowingly false home records, reviews, ownership claims, contractor identities, or reports.
10

Third-party services and links

Homework Ledger depends on third-party services such as cloud hosting, authentication, maps and search, communications, analytics, error monitoring, optional AI providers, government portals, and the Apple App Store and Google Play. Their services and links may have separate terms and privacy practices.

We do not control third-party websites, public databases, contractors, or service providers and are not responsible for their availability, content, actions, or accuracy.

11

Service availability and changes

We may add, modify, suspend, or discontinue features, data sources, coverage areas, or app versions. Permit feeds and other external sources may change without notice. We work to preserve home reports, but Homework Ledger is not a substitute for keeping original receipts, warranties, permits, photographs, and other records you may need.

You are responsible for installing supported mobile-app updates. Older app versions may stop working when security, platform, or service requirements change.

12

Homework Ledger property

The Homework Ledger software, design, branding, logos, and service-created materials are owned by Thinkdoor LLC or its licensors and are protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. These terms do not transfer ownership of those materials to you.

13

Suspension and termination

We may restrict, suspend, or terminate access when reasonably necessary to protect users, homes, contractors, the service, or third parties; investigate suspected misuse; comply with law; or enforce these terms. Where appropriate, we may provide notice or an opportunity to appeal through Contact Us.

You may stop using Homework Ledger or delete your account through Account settings. Account deletion and the treatment of shared property history are described in the Privacy Policy.

14

Disclaimers

Homework Ledger is provided on an as-is and as-available basis to the extent permitted by law. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability or that every record, classification, contractor match, reminder, estimate, report, or user submission is complete, current, accurate, safe, or suitable for a particular purpose.

Homework Ledger does not provide legal, financial, real-estate, engineering, architectural, code-compliance, inspection, or other professional advice. Seek an appropriate qualified professional or government authority when a decision requires that expertise.

15

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Thinkdoor LLC and its service providers will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, property damage, or decisions made in reliance on the service. Any exclusions or limitations apply only to the extent permitted in your jurisdiction.

16

General terms, updates, and contact

Homework Ledger is operated by Thinkdoor LLC in Cary, North Carolina. These terms are governed by North Carolina law, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, except where applicable consumer law requires otherwise.

If any provision is unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect. A failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not transfer your account or these terms without our permission; we may transfer these terms as part of a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of the service.

We may update these terms as the service changes. If a change is material, we will post the updated terms, revise the date above, and provide additional notice when reasonably appropriate. Continued use after the effective date means you accept the updated terms.

Questions about these terms can be submitted through Contact Us in the website or mobile app.

For details about how information is collected, used, retained, and shared, read the Privacy Policy. Questions can be submitted through Contact Us.
